Welcome to The Writer’s Guide
We are a loose association of published writers, literary agents, commissioning editors, book publicists and marketing consultants. Our objective here is simply to improve the chances of authors looking to find the best publishing option for their work and once found, to increase their book’s sales.
We have no particular position or bias with regards to self-publishing, traditional publishing or any other form of publishing. Just as long as the author really understands the pros and cons of each and can make an informed decision as to the best publishing option for their own book.
We created this platform to give advice and information to new authors not readily available elsewhere. Often some of this information makes for difficult reading and exposes the harsh realities of trying to become a professional writer today. Some of the information presented here also contains details which some companies would rather remain hidden. We do not involve ourselves in rumor, sniping or denigration, there are plenty of sites dedicated to that nonsense.
The contributors to this site are all publishing industry professionals but remember, even professionals can disagree!
We welcome questions and will do our best to help or give advice but regretfully, at this present time we are not in a position to assess manuscripts or to give introductions to agents or publishers. However hopefully , these pages will provide a good grounding and at least enable one to ask the right questions to secure the best publishing option.
Just a word of warning before venturing into our pages. We are impartial and have no side in whether self-publishing or traditional publishing is best. We also have no side in whether you should publish at all. We are not trying to sell you books or contracts and therefore we feel we can be much more honest about writing as a career than those who have an agenda. Here, you will find some very uncomfortable facts and statistics about writing and you may just decide that your best publishing option is simply to give up the idea of writing as a career, forget about getting published and just enjoy writing.
Whatever you decide, we hope you find this site useful, and if so, please share it with your friends.
